Job description

1.  Job Purpose    
This role is responsible for day to day Management of all aspects of the milking operation, CIP and Tanker Dispatch.

 

2.   Main Tasks & Accountabilities
Task    Description

Milking Parlor Management    

•    Day to day Management of all aspects of the milking operation, CIP & tanker dispatch
•    Maintain agreed key milk quality targets & report any issues that could compromise milk quality
•    Strive to improve technical & parlor operational efficacy & report issues in a timely manner 
•    Ensure the agreed milking routine is carried out on all milking cows at every milking
•    Accurate collection & recording of data related to the milk production, animal treatment, dry off etc.
•    Diagnosis of clinical mastitis and reports to veterinarians.
•    Identification & reporting of problem cows lame, low milk / high BCS cows) to the Milking Herd Supervisor / Herd Manager
•    Ensure best practices in animal handling, welfare & milk quality are consistently achieved 
•    Make sure veterinary drugs & parlor CIP chemicals are handled, used & stored in accordance with label recommendations
•    Ensure a hygienic, calmed, organized & safe working environment for all parlor staff & cows
•    Provide instruction & feedback to parlor staff to ensure high level of cow comfort, milk quality & operational efficiency 
•    Optimize the use of company resources in a sustainable & ethical manner 
•    Provide leadership & on the job training to milking parlor staff & identify training needs  
•    Submit purchase requisitions for all milking parlor consumables in a timely manner.

 

Other Tasks    

•    Comply with all Company policies and procedures. 
•    Perform all the other tasks and activities as assigned. 

 

HACCP/other compliances    

•    Ensure milking operators follow the hygiene protocols strictly.
•    Ensure gloves, masks, milking operators are groomed and dressed neat and tidy to ensure hygienic milk harvesting.
    

 

CIP and Chemicals    

•    Ensure CIP is done properly to clean the equipment.
•    Ensure CIP operators handle the chemicals as per HSE protocols.

 

Stock and Inventories    

•    Ensure educate consumables like liners, filters, PPE, and chemicals are in stock.

 

People management and reporting responsibilities    

•    Produce end of month departmental report, on time, and as required by the management.
•    Ensure accurate and up to date, daily, weekly, monthly records as required by the management. 
•    Ensure tasks are understood by the team members, and performed responsibly and diligently
•    Help others in the team if needed; Support relief staff in their duties

•    Responsible and be in alignment with the safety rules and procedures as per MAZOON QHSE Policy.
•    Ensure all relevant quality, health, security, safety, and environmental policies, procedures and controls are adhered to so that employee safety, legislative compliance, delivery of high-quality service and a responsible environmental attitude can be guaranteed.
•    Ensure that incidents and hazards are reported in a timely manner and reduce consumption of natural resources to assist in protecting the environment and ensuring a healthy and safe work environment.

External    Stakeholders, customers, agencies etc.

 

4.   Person Specification  (Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience)  

Education Level –    Minimum Requirement    

•    Bachelor’s Degree in agriculture or animal science.

Professional    Qualifications 

•    Must have special training in dairy management of large herds.

Work Experience    

•    A minimum of 6 years of large dairy herd parlor experience.

Job Specific Skills    

•    Must have knowledge related to animal science.

5.   Position Location  
•    To be based in Muscat Office and travelling to all depots in Oman
